Area Info

The Likya (Lycian) coast runs from Fethiye east toward Antalya — a string of harbour towns, pine-covered mountains, ancient ruins and turquoise bays. Below are the spots most guests ask us about. Distances are from our office in Calis, Fethiye.

Fethiye town and harbour

Fethiye

The market town of the western Lycian coast. Built on the ruins of ancient Telmessos, with rock-cut tombs cut into the cliff above the centre, a Tuesday market that fills several blocks, and a bay full of gulets. Most of our excursions start or end here. Distance: in town.

Ölüdeniz blue lagoon from above

Ölüdeniz

The "dead sea" — a sheltered lagoon with water so still it mirrors the sky, separated from the open Mediterranean by a thin spit of beach. Babadağ Mountain rises 1,960 m straight behind it, which is why Ölüdeniz is one of the world's top tandem paragliding sites. Distance: 18 km.

Saklıkent Canyon

Saklıkent

An 18 km gorge carved by an icy mountain river — the name means "hidden city". You wade through the cold shallows between sheer rock walls 300 m high. Combined easily with the ruins of Tlos and a trout lunch at Yakapark. Distance: 50 km.

Göcek bay and marinas

Göcek

The yachting capital of the Turkish coast. Six marinas, a string of small islands across the bay, and no high-rise. This is where most blue cruises start from. Quieter and more upscale than Fethiye — good for a long lunch and a stroll along the seafront. Distance: 25 km.

Dalyan river and Lycian rock tombs

Dalyan

A small town on the Dalyan river, with massive 4th-century BC tombs cut into the cliff face opposite. River boats run down to Iztuzu Beach — a 4 km sand bar that is one of the last nesting sites of the loggerhead sea turtle. Stop on the way at the sulphur mud baths. Distance: 75 km.

Kaş town and harbour

Kaş

A whitewashed harbour town that has kept its character: cobbled lanes, bougainvillea, restaurants spilling onto the quay. Off the coast lies the sunken city of Kekova. Kaş is the best diving base on this coast — clear water, wrecks, reefs and seasonal grouper. Distance: 110 km.

Kalkan town from above

Kalkan

A small town built into a steep hillside above its own crescent harbour — more boutique hotels and rooftop restaurants than nightclubs. A short drive away are the unspoilt Patara beach (18 km of sand) and the Lycian ruins of Xanthos. Distance: 90 km.

All of these spots can be visited as day trips from Fethiye. If you'd like a custom itinerary — combining two or three of these in one day, or a multi-day private tour — drop us an email and we'll put something together.
